Friday 4/26 ! 24 O My

Laundry plumbing

I just built 2 new raised beds in my yard. 36 x 26 x 24 Filled halfway with cut up small tree pranches from pruning, bark and leaves and stuff from firewood, rotted firewood, organic tree stump I had ground. The top half is a mix of about 75-80 percent compost, peat, pearlite. I also added about 20-25 percent screemed loam. These will be for strawberries.

Just had over 6 inches of rain yesterday and more on the way. Haven't had rain like this in a long time. Of course, we had to be out in it for fun and entertainment luncheon. Got a "little" wet. But enjoyable entertainment and food.
Seeing how the rain keeps coming will just try to remain dry all weekend. Daughter down for girls day, so just chilling.
Everyone have a safe and healthy weekend and more.
David

gotta go pick up my truck from the dealer this afternoon, they had to replace the AC compressor, fortunately it was under warrantee so this one is on them. I had em due the oid change while it was there as it was due anyhow. Pams coming down in the morning tomorrow, we have a ticket to see Neil Young tomorrow night then she'll head back up in the to Flagstaff to get ready for her next trip (France and Morocco). Tomorrow before she gets here I will be conducting training for the color guard, we have a funeral to do on Sunday. Sunday after Pam goes home I'll be up @ the Legion Post getting ready for the funeral for one of our Member who was killed in a car accident, he was one of the original members who founded the post and we will be rendering honors for that @ 1600 on Sunday. Oh and in my spare time I'll work on getting ready for the 107 exam.
YUP busy week end.

Dave, whenever we bred horses or rabbits or hogs, we would move the female into the male's pen. Moving male into female pen, even if she was ready, she might fight only to protect her pen/home. Moving her into his pen, she didn't have a fight for a new space and of course he wouldn't fight as other things come to mind.
Supposed to rain today and tomorrow. Move cattle feed sometime this weekend. Might fire up the mower and mow Sunday. Finishing up some shop cleanup as 4H wood project season will be starting soon. Next Friday pick up the 4 H Dairy steers that are apparently made of gold!! Be safe and stay healthy all!!!!!

Talked to my grandson this morning and wished him a happy birthday, he turned 10 today. We got him a new BB hoop for his birthday.

Lots of rain today it looks like, not nearly as much as David got, but a few inches yesterday. I had all the yard work done Wednesday night luckily. I've got some greenhouse projects to work on this weekend, and do some more organizing of the shop. I think my wife has a few house projects in mind as well..

Doing some house cleaning and running a variety of errands today.

Tomorrow LOML and I are headed about 2 hours north to White Rock NM (just down the hill from Los Alamos) to attend a music recital that both of my nephews kids will be performing in. Should be a nice day for a road trip.

Sunday I'm hoping to put a new set of pickups in my main guitar. The old ones have been giving me problems, even after I potted* them in wax a few weeks ago. The new ones are cheapies I bought on Amazon and they had not been potted, so Wednesday I fired up my paraffin crock pot and gave them a bath. This time around I rigged up my vacuum pump and one of my vacuum chuck to fit the top of the crock pot...poor man's vacuum wax potting, lol.

* Wax "potting" involves filling all the internal nooks and crannies of a guitar pickup with melted paraffin wax. It helps prevent feedback and other unwanted squealing sounds that can happen when the guitar is played through a loud amp or PA.

Spring work is really ratcheting up here, with sunny days and daytime temps 10-15C, comfortable for working and no bugs. The past two nights have been frosty though, down to -5C and I had to cover up some of the early perennials that have been pushing ahead in the sunshine. The frost wouldn’t kill them, but they’d be set back. We’ve been cleaning up a lot of areas and gardens that have been neglected for several years. That’s macro-gardening with an old front end loader tractor and dump trailer!

In the orchards, pruning is in full swing with six guys working their way through. I’m helping set up a secondary sprayer loading tank and mixing station to service some of the more remote orchard blocks and cut down on road travel with the sprayers. It’s a plumbing job at this stage, so at least three trips to town for parts!

I haven’t made the tour around the pasture fences yet, to make sure all the perimeter fence is delivering it’s full 5000volts😁before we put the sheep out for grazing.

I don’t think there’s any shop work in the plans, but several hours of paperwork before next week. Company’s coming tomorrow, so we’ll have some social time with beverages and barbecued chicken or salmon.

Other than that, a fairly quiet weekend😀

Have a good one and be safe out there in the central states, I see some severe weather on the tv.

Another week just about in the books.
I have a mate for BG but need her to get settled in before I introduce him to her cage.
Jarrod and I will be putting up a 14x17 medal structure tomorrow. And work on the farm.
Ha, great on the new bird, but just got to say, Dave, with your expertise in wood working,,,that cage may be lacking just a little~

Still gardening. Removed a raised bed that rotted out after 15 years and replaced it with a new metal one that should last the duration. The old one was blocking access to my generator hook up and the new one won't interfere. I just need to add some pavers so the missus can maneuver around it easily.
Some shop time making furniture for the wife's felines. The cat wall is about finished and there's a scratching post on the bench to finish this project. Always plenty of things to do. Stay safe, folks.

That’s a good looking raised bed. Here we are replacing some of the “temporary” 1990’s low railway tie retaining walls with stone, which is a lot of work, but should last a long time.
Nice cat wall! Has there been much celebratory caterwauling ?😀

Peter, I sure wish there was good source of nice free rock around here. We only have free clay .
The kitties love their 'ceiling city', as my daughter calls it. Lots of kitty monkey business, but no caterwaulng🐱...and I got this far on the scratching post today before running out of jute rope. Pending approval by Walter.

No shortage of rock around here, Ted. There’s a serious quarry about ten minutes from here that welcomes small customers who want to “pick their own”. Just have to find a spot that’s been recently blasted and stay out of the way of the big machinery. It’s a workout though.

Those scratching posts take a lot more rope than we expect.
